AAC+ is one of the best encoding options there are.

Then maybe it's my dialup connection on cable. I only get 20kps/sec maximum. So maybe that's why. No, wait! But when I listen to other stations that don't have AAC+, it sounds perfect. Explain that one then.

First you explain "dialup cable". Do you mean DSL?

No. It's high speed cable slowed down to Dialup speed. My cable company calls it Lite Speed. It has similar characteristics to Dialup but 5 times faster than real Dialup on a cable modem. The real Dialup only gives you approx 4 kbps/sec maximum with a fax modem but I get 20 kbps/sec maximum. It's the only and most cheapest internet I can afford on cable.

256k Cable. Dialup is maxed at 56Kbps and requires a dial tone as well as an RJ11.

Now back to ACC+. The bad quality sound you claim to hear could be several things. First and foremost I'd say it's your connection speed if you're streaming. It may also be a speaker/headphone issue. ACC+ is popular with the well-informed because of it's quality and compression ratios.

I am using Winamp, but do I have to turn the AAC+ on or is it built-in?

Winamp detects that it is AAC and plays it accordingly.

It wouldn't play at all if your player (winamp) doesn't support AAC+. Wink

Well it sounds pretty ****** to me, because it goes in and out like ALC (Automatic Level Control) and that's a pain in the *** on the ears. Confused Rolling Eyes

AAC+ sounds great--at the right bitrates. 96kbps is way way too high for AAC+. AAC+ at 96k sounds worse than regular LC-AAC at 96k because of the way it works, unfortunately. Confused
You're not supposed to go above 80kbps for 2 channel audio, and even then, it's still recommended to stick to 64kbps for stereo, since 64kbps is HE-AAC's "sweet spot"...
It'd also be nice if you guys would make a dial-up friendly stream with HE-AACv2, perhaps at 24 or 32 kbps? Might give some more people a chance to listen! Smile

Sure it would, if it supported regular AAC (LC-AAC), it'd play as AAC without any of the HE-AAC enhancements (SBR and/or parametric stereo). iTunes is a good example of this.

What encoder are you guys using for this? Orban Opticodec? Nero Digital? Any of the various Coding Technologies implementations (Winamp's is the most popular)?

useless geek note: HE-AAC (High Efficiency) is the 'official' name for it; aacPlus and AAC+ are just marketing names. Wink
