Heres a little bit about BitTorrent and how to use it.
First of all, you will need a bittorrent client, like Bitornado, ABC, BitComet, or if you want a more complicated, but powerful client, you can use Azureus, which works on Windows, Linux, And Mac OS X. Azureus requires java runtime files (JRE) to be run, they can be found here.
Usually when you install a bittorrent client it is ready to go imeadiately, but in the case that you have a firewall or router, you will need to open or forward ports 6881-6889 to allow incoming connections, unless you want to have slow download speeds, here is the reason why. This is often called "Virtual Server" in many routers.
If you are in situation where it is impossible to open up your ports, then i would recommend using the Azureus bittorrent client to download your mixes, it works better than most when behind a firewall.
Next, there is a file called a ".torrent" file that you need in order to begin the download. This file contains all the information about how to connect to the tracker(which is just a server that all of the peers must report back to and get information about other peers from, without the tracker, the download process would not be possible) and information about the files to be downloaded.
Note: With Bittorrent it is not posible to get a corrupted download, because any part of the file that gets corupted in the download process is downloaded again.
Basically the only other thing you have to do is open the .torrent file and select a location to save to.
Note: If you cancel your download, you can resume where you left off by opening the torrent file again, and selecting the same download location.
Note: If you must stop the torrent before you share it for a while then remember that 100% does not mean that the mix is downloaded completely, please wait until the bittorrent client says "Download Completed" before you stop the download.
You can get a full featured Bittorrent FAQ here.
IMPORTANT!!!
You must keep your download window open after you have reached 100% for at least the legth of time that it took for you to download, this makes sure that others that download after you can still get the download completed. A share ratio of less that 1.00 is bad, 1.00 is good, and 2.00 or more is really good. Please keep your windows open for as long as you can.
If you have any questions or problems with bittorrent that this post or the FAQ does not answer/resolve, ask about it in this forum. |
